Aspen Waste Systems offers our customers free use of clean, attractive, sturdy carts with wheels.

• Medium (65-gallon) recommended for households of 1-3 people
• Large (95-gallon) recommended for households of 4+ people

Make sure to have your container out at the curb or alley line by 6:00 a.m. on collection day for rural Roland residential garbage collection or the night before.

Follow these guidelines for proper placement of your carts to ensure we can safely and efficiently service your home.

• Place your cart(s) within 3 feet of the curb or alley line and at least 3 feet apart from other carts and objects
• Make sure the handle is facing towards your residence with the lid opening to the street or alley

Ensure you don’t miss us when we are there to service your home.

• Have your cart(s) out at the collection point by 6:00 am on your service day or the night before
• Keep your cart(s) out for service until the end of the day or until you are certain it has been serviced – service times can change depending on weather, road construction, or driver and route changes

Aspen Waste Systems observes the following holidays:

If your service day falls on or after any of these holidays, your service will be delayed (1) day.

MATERIAL	DISPOSAL OPTIONS
Appliances	Residents can dispose of appliances at the Resource Recovery Plant. Appliances include but are not limited to: dishwashers, stoves, washers, dryers, furnaces, air conditioners, refrigerators, water heaters, freezers, microwaves, and dehumidifiers. Items that can be disposed of in your garbage: blender, toaster, toaster oven, waffle iron, electric skillet, air fryer, food processor, bread maker, vacuum cleaner, coffee maker, instant pot, rice cooker, slow cooker, stand mixer, juicer, ice cream maker, yogurt maker, coffee grinder, popcorn machine, panini maker, deep fryer, garbage disposal, water purifier, sewing machine, iron, air purifier, space heater, ceiling fan, smoker - call 515-239-5137 if you have questions. Bell Salvage and Mike Louis will also accept appliances for a fee.
Batteries	Alkaline and carbon-zinc batteries (non-rechargeable batteries used in toys, radios, flashlights, and other household products) can still safely be placed in the trash. Any other batteries can be dropped off at Resource Recovery at no charge.
Electronics	If you're a resident and want to get rid of your own home computers or TVs, take them to Goodwill or Best Buy, or you can still bring them to Resource Recovery. Aspen Waste Systems charges an additional fee to pick up TVs for you at your residence. Only two units per residential customer will be accepted per day at the Resource Recovery Plant.
Fluorescent light bulbs	The Resource Recovery Plant will take incandescent and fluorescent bulbs from residents.
Liquid waste	Completely dried and hardened paint can be put in the trash. If it's not dry, pour kitty litter, floor dry, or sawdust into the paint and stir until it's stiff like a putty or cookie dough; leave the lid off so workers will know the paint is dry, and they will pick it up for you with the rest of your trash for an additional item fee. Household Hazardous Waste is accepted at 110 Center Avenue on the west side of the building. Call 515-239-5137 to make your appointment.
Medical waste	Medical waste like bandages, gauze, gloves, and tubing should be placed in a doubled, securely sealed, opaque plastic trash bag. Disposing of these items in the regular trash is generally acceptable.
Needles & Sharps	Resource Recovery will accept sharps from residents, but they must be in either a red sharps plastic container or a hard plastic detergent bottle. The detergent bottle must have the cap screwed on and it must be taped down as well. They can no longer accept sharps collected in pop bottles, milk jugs, coffee cans, or any other non-detergent bottle. Take these items to 410 E 2nd St. and the tipping floor attendant will help you.
