MATERIAL | DISPOSAL OPTIONS | ||
---|---|---|---|
Appliances | CLICK HERE to contact Aspen Waste Systems to schedule an appliance pickup. Additional fees apply. | ||
Batteries | Batteries are not allowed in the trash, but you can drop them off at a Battery Disposal Site. | ||
Electronics | Electronics are accepted for recycling by Best Buy and Staples. | ||
Fluorescent light bulbs | It is illegal to put fluorescent light bulbs in the garbage; they contain mercury, and those must be disposed of in particular manners. Check with your local hardware store, many of which accept fluorescent light bulbs for recycling. | ||
Liquid waste | To properly dispose of household liquids, identify them as either hazardous or non-hazardous. Non-hazardous liquids like cleaning products can usually be disposed of in the trash or flushed down the drain with plenty of water. Hazardous liquids like paints, solvents or used motor oil should be disposed of using a local household waste (HHW) collection program or drop-off location. |
||
Medical waste | Medical waste like bandages, gauze, gloves, and tubing should be placed in a doubled, securely sealed, opaque plastic trash bag. Disposing of these items in the regular trash is generally acceptable. |
||
Needles & Sharps | Place needles in a rigid, leak-proof and puncture-resistant container, like a plastic bottle or sharps container, then sealing it tightly and dispose of in household trash. Seal with heavy-duty tape to prevent accidental opening. Label the container clearly as "Sharps" or "Needles". Do not recycle needles. Do not flush needles. Or you may consider using sharps disposal devices that bend, break, incinerate, or shear needles, and then dispose of the remaining syringe and melted metal in the garbage. Some manufacturers offer mail-back programs for sharps containers. |
